Poll Results Are In: Saba & Nero Crowned Best Double Act!

Seemingly a dog is not a man's best friend, but a crow is. Saba and Nero have won this week's poll as the best double act in the Dust Lands!

With many wonderful, funny, villainous and loved-up teams as possible winners, the fan-favourite is one girl and her faithful flighty companion who's always that one step ahead of everyone else! Like owner, like pet!
What strikes me, personally, as the reason for Saba and Nero's victory is their unspoken connection. There is a communication between the two that only they understand. Saba treats her companion with respect and in return, he is always there when she needs him. Sometimes, their relationship can be humourous, but more often than not it's focused on loyalty and stability. I guess everyone has a special connection with their pet!

I think that other 'teams' can be grouped together:

The Familial
Saba and Emmi, whilst not nearly as popular as Saba and Nero, did have a few votes, and rightly so. The progression of their relationship is a beautiful one to watch from a reader's perspective. There is a definite love between these sisters. There's also Saba and Lugh. After all, if it wasn't for the fierce familial love between them, there would be no story for us fans - Saba would never have gone after Lugh so bravely and their journey wouldn't have continue. Then we have Ike and Tommo, who whilst not technically blood relatives we accept them as father and son. Ike's love for Tommo is clear in his action of taking him in and watching over him; there is a sweet love from Tommo for this gentle giant in return.

The Romantic
Naturally Saba and Jack came in second. This pairing is never going to lose a poll...ever. Unless it's asking who isn't meant to be together. They make us laugh quite simply. And swoon. And..also, together, they make the Dust Lands seem like a much more bearable place. Surprisingly, Saba and DeMalo, and Ike and Molly, received no votes. Perhaps the blinding connection of Saba and Jack just overshadows these pairings. There was one entered vote under 'Other' for Tommo and Saba; I guess some fans are just a sucker for a boy with big brown eyes chasing the girl he can't have!

The Villainous
Thankfully just the one entry under this category. Rooster and Miz Pinch, our resident evils, did not fare too well. However, some mention must go out to them for being a, if very cruel, very entertaining double act. A verbally abusive wife whilst not every man's dream, seems to be taken in Rooster's stride.

The Comedians
Jack and Ike were pretty popular. These two, from their first scene together in Blood Red Road, had me in stitches. I suppose the same conclusion can be drawn for the six people who voted for this team!

The Protectors
In every story, there are those who look out for their friends. Tommo, although a young boy himself, keeps a watchful eye over Emmi. And then in Rebel Heart, this responsibility shifts to Jack, who does an equally good job. Their tie with three votes each shows that the fans just can't pick who is the best protector of little Emmi...even if she doesn't necessarily need one!

The Friends
Ash and Maev, warriors side-by-side, without their Epona, battle on. The strong friendship between these fiercely loyal and determined women is truly inspirational. Although I wouldn't like to run into them in Hopetown!

So, it really does take two to tango it would seem. It's lucky the Dust Lands fans have so many double acts to choose from and appreciate!
